Magnetic Moments

It was a week of developing and exploring our understanding of magnets. We learned about the north and south poles of a magnet and then found examples in the classroom of magnetic or not magnetic objects. There were three challenges we explored with magnets. First, we had to retrieve a paperclip out of a glass container that was about half full of water only using a magnet. The challenge was we could not get the magnet wet or ourselves. The second challenge was to move a paperclip along our rulers without the two items touching. Our rulers had to be between the magnet and the paperclip. The last challenge was to make a paperclip float in the air without it touching the magnet.

These challenges were very exciting and we shared our discoveries with each other. For the upcoming week we will be using what we have learned to create a magnetic maze!
We also created a "What if..." poem for Iqaluit based on the physical geography and information we learned this week.

 November 30 - December 3

The 12 Spirit Days of Winter/Christmas has started! The students had fun participating on the first two days! Monday is snow/white day - wear white.

During the week, we used pattern blocks to create patterns and transform the blocks into shapes that repeated. We also finished our descriptive writing about bats and are looking forward to creating a magnetic maze over the next two weeks.

In the upcoming week we will be logging into Razkids and sending home information so that we can use it at home.

Float or Sink? That was our challenge this week! We had to paper fold three different types of boats from the canoe, kayak and speedboat. T...
