12 Spirit days of Winter/Christmas in December.
Starting Wednesday, December 12, 2020
November 23 -27
We continue to learn about bats, odd and even numbers, place value, descriptive writing and how to navigate our Google Classroom for social studies.
This week we used a dash fact organizer to collect information about bats. The organizer was divided into columns. One column was about the big ideas (appearance, diet, habitat, movement, enemies, life cycle, interesting facts) and the other column provided a place for specific information. We selected big ideas that interested each of us and worked on collecting information through the use of technology and fact based books. Then we had the opportunity to use the "Makerspace cart" to design and create something that would benefit bats. Some of our creations included gates to keep humans out of the caves, but allowed the bats to fly in, others were bat houses that could be used in parks or in trees and some of our designs were to protect the bats from owls.
This week in math we focused tens and ones place value chart as well as if a number was odd or even. We learned how to play a game called Odd and Evener. The game involved turning over two cards to make a two digit number, we had to say what our number was to our partner and tell them if our number was odd or even. We then rolled a die to see who received the point. If the die landed on a 1, 3, or 5 and you had made an odd number you got the point. It worked the same if the die landed on a 2, 4, or 6 then you got a point if your number was an even number.
We created our own math question using two odd numbers and the sum had to equal a two digit number. Then using warm and cool colours we created a pattern when we coloured our work. Our odd numbers could either be cool or warm, but then our answer had to be the opposite.

This week we used the Google Slides in Google Classroom to represent the descriptive words for the Prairies that we had discussed from the poem by David Bouchard. Then we wrote sentences to describe our prairie images. Our writing this week included writing a stanza using the same format as "If You're Not From the Prairie". We brainstormed a wide range of topics from our family, siblings, special places, and teams. This was included in our in our slides. It was an important week for navigating Google Slides. We learned how to add slides, capture images, change our font, add text and consistently login to the classroom.
